A Prodigious Talk For A Rapt Audience - Dr. Shehnaz Shaikh at the EDUQUOTIENT, Bangalore.

It was quite a refreshing moment for the educationists & teachers from various Islamic schools in Bangalore, to get the precious reminders in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah. Yes, the Workshop conducted by Dr. Shehnaz Shaikh was simply connecting the audience with the teachings of the Qur'an, and also elaborating on the importance of the teachers' motivation in living by the Qur'an.

Some of the interesting takeaways from the workshop:

Say Alhamdulillaah - Say it with happiness and content in the heart.

Become a teacher to
* Follow the Prophet
* Best ones are those who learn and teach the Qur'an
* Sadaqah Jaariya
* Get honoured by being a teacher
* Teachers in Islamic schools are more honoured
* Of course you can earn too
* Prophets were teachers 2:62
* Fulfil to the best of the ability

Teachers are categorised into 4 categories:
1. A Mediocre teacher TELLS

Her thoughts over some schools that spends more on aesthetics, while less on education: Smart Classes are more important than the playgrounds and all the amenities.

You can be a good Muslim, if you become a good human being.

When you enter the classroom, every ordeal and hardship must be forgotten.

We have to greet the students. They shouldn't greet first. We do. Don't expect them to stand up for us.

* If we work in Allah's cause, then Allah will take care of our worries.

Be the smileys
Make an effort
Smiling is charity

Children imitate the style of the teacher; even their Walking style too. So do well.

What makes a great teacher?
Intention - purify the intention first.

Knowledge if not cultivated, it cannot be harvested.

Facilitate Learning.
Relate to the students lives.
Make it relative so that they know its application in the daily lives.

For more, you must attend her next presentation soon In'shaa'Allah.

We got to hear to Dr. Shehnaz' daughter Sadia who happened to be a haafizah of the Qur'an, and who is currently pursuing MBBS. The video presentation of Sadia, wherein she as a child has learnt the word-for-word Qur'an meaning was simply astounding and breathtaking that made the audience realise that the purpose of education is mainly to connect the students with the divine revelations sent by Allah. The point when the Qur'an is being memorised and being understood, then that's when the Islamic schools can say, "yes we are doing our job".

Overall the workshop went on very well with the major participation by the leading schools of Bangalore. The event was partnered by Hikmah International School, Iqra International School & Al Basheer International School. Lot of compliments received towards the sumptuous food that left the participants say "yeh dil maange more":) Yes 8A gets 5 stars for organising this event.

Dr. Shehnaz also shared some info relating to the books published by her - the Qur'an Word-for-Word, the school books - Arabic, Islamic studies etc. Many participants were impressed by the contents, and are hoping to introduce the books in their schools.

In one sentence if I have to describe Dr. Shehnaz: A person who speaks her mind, with conviction, truthfulness and with apt research.

May Allah make her and her family achieve more heights in the field of education, and grant them all success in this world and the hereafter.

- Umar Shariff, 8A
