Losses In Business Is Decreed. So What’s Next?

Most of us have come across some occasions wherein we have made some monetary losses in business and in some transactions. Losses are not delighting to the hearts. It gives a lot of pain if the magnitude is greater. That’s how humans who value wealth and money feel. We do all businesses to see profits. We plan them extensively and choose the best ways possible to strategically execute them. But Allah’s will always supercede our will. Man proposes. God disposes. He gives the success in our projects. And in some cases he gives us loss. For destiny is real. However, we need to blame our ownselves for the willful mistakes that we do. And learn lessons from them. But in cases where the result of our endeavour was part of the test from Allah, we must accept the decree of God and seek His help through His guidance.

At the time of losses we must return to Allah with His remembrance by saying “Innaa lillaahi wa innaa ilaihi raaji’oon” – we belong to Allah, and we return back to Him. Allah has said in the Qur’an in Soorah Baqarah, Chapter no. 2, Aayaath nos. 153, 155 and 156:

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

And We will surely test you with something of fear and hunger and a loss of wealth and lives and fruits, but give good tidings to the patient,

ٱلَّذِينَ إِذَآ أَصَٰبَتْهُم مُّصِيبَةٌ قَالُوٓا۟ إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّآ إِلَيْهِ رَٰجِعُونَ

Who, when disaster strikes them, say, “Indeed we belong to Allah, and indeed to Him we will return.”

So, based on the above aayaath, we must understand that the losses were decreed by Allah to test our faith. Allah has never made false promises to His believers. He never said that we will never face any difficulties if we worship Him. He taught us how to face those difficulties. Through prayers and patience we can overcome our grief In’shaa’Allaah – by the will of Allah.

As Allah has promised, every difficulty comes with an ease accompanied with it. Just like the saying “every cloud comes with a silver lining”.

Allah says in Soorah Ash-Sharh, Chapter No. 94, Aayath No. 5

فَإِنَّ مَعَ ٱلْعُسْرِ يُسْرًا

For indeed, with hardship [will be] ease.

So let’s face every test with courage that is demanded to overcome every challenge In’shaa’Allaah. Ask the question to yourself: What next?
If you have made losses in business, and you are unable to meet the ends and pay back the loan or repay your supplier, then you must seek Allah’s help and plan further to embark on your journey to another episode of your life filled with surprises and hopes. The possible steps would be to:

Talk to the one to whom you are indebted. Be open to the matters. Don’t runaway from the discussion. Talk. Talk with all genuinty. That will open many ways ahead.

Ask for concessions. Ask them to forgo some of the obligations or reduce the amount that is due, considering the situation at hand. If that works out, it’s good to carry on. If not, it is still not that bad. Let’s move on to look for other options too anyways.

Ask for installments. Work to breakdown your heavy loads into bits and pieces. Promise him that you would repay the loan or favour in small parts that will allow you to fulfill the commitment over a period of time.

Take loans from known people. Take loans that can be returned promptly. Don’t take loans that will add more burden to your crisis. Take only as much as necessary. Remember, never take loans on interest or usury. For that is forbidden in Islam.

Sell somethings. In case you’ve gold and other ornaments that can give you liquidity, don’t shy to sell them to repay the loans. Paying back the loan or the amount payable to supplier will give rest to the heart and honour in the society.

Other options may be to look for investors for your business, or become a worker at your supplier’s company, or look for charity from your close relatives and so on. Do all that is suitable to you. All things are to be done to survive and make a life. And over a period of time you can become rich or self subsisting, or your progeny can become rich later, or at the least you would have done the best possible thing to live with honour. For you have nothing to lose, as long as you are optimistic. So never lose hope. Be on the run to seek the bounties from God. In God we put out trust. Thanks for reading.
